Our commitment to privacy
At TxtVanish, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how we safeguard it when you use txtvanish.com.
Information we collect
Text content. We store the text you submit. It is encrypted before being stored in our database.
Files. If you attach a file, we store it encrypted and delete it 7 days after upload.
IP address. We store the IP address used to create each message, together with that message.
Passwords. If you protect a message with a password, we store only a one-way hash of it, never the password itself.
Message activity. We record when a message was created, how many times it has been opened, and when it was first and last opened, so the sender can see it on their sender link.
Abuse prevention. To stop automated abuse, we keep short-lived counters derived from IP addresses in scrambled form. They are cleared within hours.
Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which may include IP addresses and timestamps, for a limited period.
Reports. If you report a message, we store the report text with the message it refers to.
How we use your information
To provide the service: storing, showing and expiring your messages and files.
For security: identifying and preventing abuse of the service, and acting on reports.
Data security
Text content and files are encrypted at rest using AES-256. Pages that show a message, the page you see after creating one, and sender links are sent with instructions not to be cached or indexed, and they load no third-party code.
Data retention
Text content is retained according to the expiration settings you choose when creating it. Once expired, the content is marked as deleted in our database and is no longer accessible. Files are deleted 7 days after upload, regardless of the message's expiry.
Cookies and third-party services
Pages that show a message, the page you see after creating one, and sender links set no cookies and load nothing from other companies.
Our other pages, such as the home page and this one, use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used and Google AdSense to show ads. These services use cookies. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. The admin area used by our staff sets a session cookie for signing in. Visitors never receive it.
